The Tower playbook by Rae Nedjadi
Written by Rae Nedjadi (he/they), The Tower is a character who transforms violently between different identities, and must balance change against sacrifice.
In tarot reading, The Tower is a card of sudden change, upheaval and destruction. It can also represent personal transformation and liberation, especially when read reversed.
The playbook incorporates the reading of the tarot card and the archetype of a transforming hero. Touchstones for the playbook include Moon Knight, Firestorm, Legion, Ghost Rider and the Hulk.
The Tower possesses a main identity, as well as heroic and monstrous ones. They constantly shift between the identities, seeking and avoiding change in equal measures, letting their emotions both change and compromise them.
The upright/reverse readings of a tarot card often see the same quality with a different perspective. Similarly, the strong and weak moves of a Belonging Outside Belonging playbook are two sides of the same coin. With the strong moves, triumph is brought forth by change and destruction; with the weak moves, change and destruction lead to ruin instead.
