Lore of the Taels of the Heisty Vixens

I have been meaning to work on the overhaul of Taels of the Heisty Vixens for a long time, but I kept getting distracted by new projects. I do have a lot of ideas and notes, but the longer I drag it on, the more I struggle with perfectionism/executive dysfunction. I am compiling some of my ideas and notes into a coherent-ish post here as a devlog.

Ethnicities of foxes in the Concession

The land of foxes, also known as Vulpan Empire (sometimes Greater Scyonia), is a land of diverse cultures. There are four major ethnic groups of foxes/Vulpans in the Concession—Vulpes, Hulian, Wuton and Scyon.

Vulpes

Vulpes is the name for both the land and the foxes originated there. The land of Vulpes is in the mid-northern region of the empire. Millenia ago, a king of Vulpes embarked on militaristic expansion and founded the Vulpan Empire.

Scyon

The Scyons originated from Scyonia in the northeast, which was originally a vessel state of the Vulpan Empire. Two centuries ago, the Scyon prince brought peace to the empire by ending the Great Civil War. Since then, the Vulpan Empire has been ruled by the descendants of the Peace Bringer. Hence, the Vulpan Empire is often referred to as Great Scyonia in official documents.

Hulians

Huli is an eastern region of the empire, and the land that the Concession is built on. The majority of the foxes in the Concession are of Hulian heritage.

Wuton

Wutony is a southern region of the empire, with warm climate and fertile farmlands. Many Wutons don't think the nobles in the north have their best interest in mind, and they don't feel a strong allegiance to the Vulpan Empire, even less so to the ruling Scyons. There had been a number of uprisings that started in Wutony, but they were all crushed by the Vulpan army. Refugees from the wars have fled to the Concession, and they make up the second largest ethnic group of the city.

Religions in the Concession

There are three main religions in the Concession. The two Vulpan religions are Equilibrism and Changism. The wolves have brought along the worship of the Canid Trifecta and the missionaries seek to proselytise the local foxes.

Equilibrism

A belief that the world is in constant equilibrium, and that life is in a never-ending cycle of death and reincarnation. Followers of Equilibrism seek spiritual enlightenment through understanding the canid condition and kindness to living beings.

Changism

A belief that the universe has a Will of its own that is reflected in its natural laws. Followers of Changism attune themselves to the Will in order to enhance their mind and body.

The Canid Trifecta

The wolves believe the Canid Queen, Duchess and Princess are the three aspects of the one true goddess. One can only be saved if they submit themselves to the Canid Trifecta, or else they face eternal damnation. The missionaries have been running schools and charities in the Concession in order to spread the religion.
